Women's Missionary Union

In 1888 a handful of Baptist women dedicated to the cause of missions founded WMU. Since that time, WMU has become the largest Protestant organization for women in the world, with a membership of approximately 1 million.

Mount Zion has deep roots in WMU as well, forming their own WMU in 1914. We continue that tradition today with many age-level mission organizations. These organizations include Women on Mission, Girls of Grace Acteens, Girls in Action and Mission Friends.

For detailed information about WMU, contact Kenya Jernigan, MZBC WMU Director at

We are pleased to offer the following small-group studies:

Steadfast Love by Lauren Chandler

Led by Lee Polk and Taby Rogers

Cost: $10

There are times when worship overflows effortlessly from a heart full of gratitude and praise. And there are times when God seems far and we feel we have nothing to offer. Throughout it all, God shows us His steadfast love. Psalm 107 is a call to worship. It reminds us that each season of life is an opportunity to reveal the anchor of our souls. In this 7-session Bible study, learn to face both storms and deserts with courage and trust in Jesus, and discover how tests in our journeys of faith reveal the true condition of our hearts. For there is no fear for the one who fears the Lord, the one whose soul is anchored in His steadfast love.

Gideon: Your Weakness, God's Strength by Priscilla Shirer

Led by Kay Thompson and Beth Smith

Cost: $10

When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky. But Gideon's story is so much bigger than that -- bigger than any one man and his mark on Israel's history. Like everything else in the Bible, this is a story about God and His people -- His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite of their weakness -- even through their weakness. And because God's people includes you and me, Gideon's story is also about us -- our lives, our doubts, our struggles, and our possibilities as believers.

From a state of fear, weakness, and insecurity, Gideon emerged as Israel's hero, filled with God's presence and His passion for deliverance. This study will encourage you to recognize your weakness as the key that the Lord gives you to unlock the full experience of His strength in your life. In what ways do you feel insufficient? Those places create the greatest opportunity to experience the sufficiency of God. Instead of ignoring, neglecting, or trying to escape your weaknesses, see them as the gifts that they are, given specifically and strategically by God to unlock the door of God's strength.

led by Ruth Kirkland and Kim True

Cost: $12

GriefShare helps group members apply biblical principles to the healing process after the death of a loved one. Throughout the videos and workbook, participants see how the gospel brings hope and restoration.

First Corinthians: Living Love When We Disagree by Melissa Spoelstra

led by Sherry Rist and Pat Dykes

Cost: $10

The cultural backdrop of Corinth was even more overtly sinful than our culture today; yet Paul boldly encouraged the Corinthian Christians not to ridicule one another or outsiders, but to work together to show the love of Christ. In this 6-week study, we will explore Paul's first letter to the Corinthians to learn how we as Christians are to deal with differences and divisions -- whether in the workplace, neighborhood, school, home, social media community, or church. We'll discover that the answer is living and sharing the radical love of Jesus Christ, and we'll unpack what this means and how we can live it out day by day.

Apples of Gold

Led by Jenny Bachmann

Titus 2:3-5 provides a beautiful picture of older women teaching younger women how to live godly lives. This example is lived out in Apples of Gold, a women’s mentoring program that includes practical cooking demonstrations, fellowship and Bible study focusing on:

Kindness • Loving your husband • Loving your children

Purity • Submission • Hospitality

Each session includes a cooking demonstration, dinner, Bible study and discussion with a group of mentors. The study book cost is $8, and there is a minimal food cost per session.

Apples of Gold is not yet scheduled for this year. Updates will be made as information is received.
